Please go away

Grinch Week:
Day 8: What holiday tradition do you wish would please just go away?

I will probably be stoned for this; but I am sick of seeing it all over Facebook...Elf on a Shelf.

I don't care how naughty your elf is or what atrocious name you have give them.  I don't want to see a picture of your elf riding a chicken (yesterday) or him playing cards with Barbie.  I know it's a cute tradition for some to have their kids behave, but the threat of telling Santa worked just as well in my house (still does) or that Jesus is always watching works in the house too.  I really don't know the tradition of elf, and I am just getting the general gist of the idea from Facebook and Pinterest.  Plus, I already have enough to clean up after.  I don't want to create a mess just to clean it up again (I have a family and animals that already make messes).

  1. Ha! Ha! This is the best post I have read today. I agree with you. I had naughty children that discipline worked with. I didn't need the help of a naughty elf...or another mess to clean up. But some of the situations that elf gets himself into can be a hoot

    1. Some of the pictures I have seen I have laughed at, but for the most part it's a big mess with an elf in the middle of it. Maybe the kids can learn a little responsibility and make them clean up after the elf.

  2. Uhm... I had never heard of this until a couple of years ago. A penpal in Denmark shared it with me. I don't know where the paper is, but I don't think it's the same as people are making it over here? I haven't even heard of it over here until recently and I'm, honestly, very confused. From what I remember, in Denmark at least it's a very old tradition.... I dunno...

    1. I remember the elf on the shelf being something completely different when I was younger. I don't think we had one, but I know my grandma had one, but it never made messes or tell on me (or else I wouldn't have gotten any presents...ha).
