Open House

I am happy today was open house at my daughter's school.  I got to go with her to all of her classes like she does during the day (except on an extremely accelerated level 5-7 minutes per class).  They talked about the expectations of the teachers, students and parents.  I also got to catch up with all my orchestra parent friends.  We are going to have a good year.

Photo Day 27: Hot
Yummy yummy salsa!  The hotter the better in my book.  If I am not sweating out of every pore, then it is not hot enough!  haha.

I can't save them all

I am just happy this day is done.  It was a pretty good day with Granny at the Senior Citizen's Center.  After that I went to the animal shelter to try to find my MIL a dog and I cried.  I knew I would.  The animals are so happy to have human affection.  Even the cats that are supposed to be above humans (in their eyes) were throwing themselves against the cages to be petted.  I still have a couple more animal shelters I need to visit and I just don't know how I am going to do it.  She can't do it because she can't leave her mom (Granny) alone for more than an hour and she works during the day.  So, of course I volunteered, because I love animals.  My husband has to keep reminding me that I can't save them all.  I keep reminding him he is replaceable...haha!

We topped off the evening with a trip to the mall.  Always a good thing in my book.  Oh, and I also got another wedding booked for April.  It's in Dallas so I would go for the weekend.  Luckily, I am doing it with another person, so not all the pressure is on me.

Photo Day 26: Contains gluten
Yummy tuxedo rice krispies treats.  My husband's favorite kind.

My teacher friend

I am happy to have watched one of my good friends get baptized today.  I was also happy to get to sit down and visit with one of my very best friends (not the one who got baptized).  She is a teacher so she is extremely busy during the week.  I will give you a little back story on how we became friends.

It was meet your teacher night when Elexis' was in 5th grade.  This happens before school and you can take all your supplies in and get acclimated to the environment before school starts.  So I walked in and introduced myself to the teacher and my husband came in after me.  She shook his hand and said, your Jeromy's cousin right?  He said yes, and she told me they all went to school together.   I thought that was pretty neat.  I continued to talk to her about being available to volunteer up at the school any time she needed me and all that fun stuff.  Elexis had to go to the bathroom so we said goodbye and waited outside the bathroom for Elexis.  My husband turns to me and says "I'm not real sure, but I think I took her (the teacher) to prom."  I am like "What?!? You can't remember who you took to prom??"  (My husband has never had a girlfriend and that is the one and only time he took a girl out).  He said "I am pretty sure it was her, she was my cousin's best friend and neither one of us were going to go to prom and my aunt made us go together."

So when we got home that night we pulled out his yearbook and sure enough his prom date was now our daughter's 5th grade teacher.  I teased him that he better had sprung for a great dinner and acted like a gentleman or our daughter was going to pay the price.  He, of course, was a complete gentleman and they went to a really nice restaurant that cost about $60 a plate.  Unfortunately for her, he let the salon stylist talk him into getting a perm in his hair before they went.  Poor poor girl.

I went into the school the first day and I told her what my husband told me about them going to prom and that I thought it was a great story.  Turns out we were kindred spirits and had similar personalities.  We just clicked.  I love her to death and we have such a great story.  I am still her test monitor and I go up there to the school and visit whenever I can.  My daughter now calls her by her first name, and we forget that she was once her teacher.  She comes to Elexis' birthday parties and the kids that were also her students run and give her a hug.

Photo Challenge Day 24: Tall
This one I had to think on a little.  I decided to go with a tall stack of blueberry pancakes.  Twelve in total.

I loved the way these turned out.

Day 25: Sour
Yum, sour gummy worms!  These will not last long.

Here we begin another week.  I hope everyone has a good one.

Sunday Stealing

1. Are you a young heart or an old soul? I relate to both.  I am an old soul who is young at heart.

2. What makes someone a best friend? Someone that you can completely trust to share your secrets with.  The person you can let your guard down with.

3. What Christmas present do you remember the most?  I have so many:  from the boom box at age 5, to the white kitten from my grandma at age 7,  my first ipod 8 years ago, my car 5 years ago (including the big red bow), my really nice 7D camera last Christmas.  I have gotten some good stuff for Christmas.

4. Tell me a movie/song/TV show/playbook that has changed your life.  Hoarders...I don't want my 'stuff' to control me, but me to control my 'stuff'.

5. Name one physical feature that you like about yourself and one that you dislike.  I like my ears.  I dislike my overbite

6. Can money buy happiness? I don't think it can, but I would sure like the opportunity to try.  I do believe it can buy good psychiatric help to help you get happy.

7. What’s more important in a relationship: physical attraction or emotional connection? I am a big believer in emotional connections.  Looks come and go.

8. Is there anyone close to you that you know you can’t trust? Yes, a few people in fact.

9. Where was your favorite place to go when you were a little kid? over to my friend's house who had a trampoline.

14. Do you believe in God? Yes!

15. Out of all the social networks in the world why use a blog? I like being able to write out my feelings and not fear judgement from the people I know in real life.  I like being able to vent and share pictures.  I use all social networks though.

16. What is your quirkiest habit?  Eating food groups one at a time and arranging them on my plate.

17. What is normal? Are you normal? Normal is flawed.  Yes.

18. Someone close to you is dying! You have the choice to let this person live for 10 more years but if you do you cause the death of 10 strangers. I don't want that choice, nor would I make it.  I am not God.

32. Give me the story of your life in 6 words.  Blessed and it goes on.

Birthday Parties

I helped my mother in law try to find a dog this morning.  Her poor little doggie died on Monday and she is in the market for another.  We went to two animal adoptions and an animal shelter today.  I found tons of dogs and kitty's I wanted, but she didn't find anything she liked.  It was good quality time with my MIL.

My MIL also hosted my husband's birthday party today.  She provided all the food (I made no bake cookies to take down there) and everything.  Everyone had a good time playing ping pong and air hockey.  It was a great day full of memories.  Elexis and her cousin and best friend had a great time hanging out.  My husband decided to take the kids to Cosmic Bowling tonight, so I got the house to myself...yay!!  I will have pictures from the party tomorrow.  I do have a picture of the no bake cookies though.  They are my husband's and my MIL's favorite cookies, so they are always a big hit.

Photo Challenge: Day 23 - Loaf
This is peanut butter chocolate chip banana bread.  It is always a big hit in our house.  I had some ripe bananas so I decided to whip it up.  I love this picture.

Day 24 is tall.  I haven't figured that one out yet, so I will have to do that tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to my husband

Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband.  I am taking time to celebrate with him and will be back with my photo challenge tomorrow.  We got him a new phone for his birthday.  He went to the lake today and his old phone didn't survive.  We were planning on getting him one anyway, but I guess today was the day.  Tomorrow we are getting together with our families and friends to celebrate.  Even better, it's at his mom's house so I don't have to do any of the party prep!   I hope everyone has a great weekend.
One of my favorite pictures of my family.

Freshly Mowed Grass

I am happy to have gotten my yard mowed today.  We were starting to be "those" people on the block. I love a freshly mowed lawn.  It smells wonderful.  I am sad that my zoo will be returning to their fall hours starting next week.  That means it will open an hour later.  As it is right now, I drop Elexis off at school and head straight over to the zoo.  This week I have been the first one in every day.  I love it.  I can connect with the animals and I don't have to share space with anyone else.  I guess I will have to find something to do before I go walk the zoo until next summer.  I have paid for my membership twice with how often I have been this summer.  Tomorrow is my husband's birthday.  I have no idea what to get him...

Photo Day 22: Favorite Flavor
Right now my favorite flavors are fruity.  I love all the fresh fruits and veggies that summer brings.  Here is some of the fruit hanging around my house right now.  Peaches, pears, apples, and pineapple.  I normally have strawberries and blueberries too, but we are out right now.

Photo Challenge Catchup

Ok, I am happy that I am caught up on my Photo Food Challenge.  I got the pictures uploaded and edited.  Next month I think I am going to do a Pinterest Food Challenge.  Since school has started, I have gotten back into the routine of cooking every night again.  Elexis started a new youth group tonight.  She brought her cousin so she would at least know someone.  Turns out, several kids from her school go there.  She was really excited and both are looking forward to going back next Wednesday.

I have yet to spend a day at home while Elexis is in school.  Monday I did my weekly visit to the Senior Citizen's Center to play dominos with my husband's Granny.  Tuesday I had to go buy a baby gift for someone my husband works with.  I also went and bought Elexis a backpack that she fell in love with (it has wolves all over it).  Today, I had to go an exchange the backpack I bought yesterday for another wolf backpack.  The first one had a scary looking image of a wolf attacking another wolf (I didn't think about it until Elexis brought it to my attention).  She didn't want to risk carrying it to school and getting in trouble for it.  Her new one just has the nicer looking wolves.  I also had to take the baby present to my husband his work because he forgot it.  He works in a restricted area so I had to wait in the visitors parking lot.  His meeting ran late so I sat there for an hour in 90+ heat.  He was very appreciative though.  I look forward to staying home tomorrow.  I plan on catching up with comments on my blog and reading other's blogs.

My baby is so big

First the first time since doing a challenge, I am a day late.  I was a day late earlier in the challenge, but I thought it posted and it hadn't.  So I am going to just say I am happy not to put pressure on myself to do it every day.  I will try to make that day up somehow, but hey; it's busy around here.

School started this week.  I was an emotional mess yesterday.  I started looking at old pictures of Elexis and combined with dropping her off; I cried for most of the day.  On top of that, my mother in law had to put her dog to sleep yesterday.  We took her a card and some flowers.

Here is my 8th grader.  She looks so grown up now.

We have a first day of school tradition of going to the donut shop and eating donuts (we also have donut Fridays as long as the rest of the week goes smoothly).  We love this tradition.  Hopefully when she goes off to college we can still continue it (sniff...sniff).  Just for nostalgia sake, here is a picture from her very first day of pre-k.  I can honestly say I cry every year the first day of school.  I just hope that I have done enough with her.
Her My Little Pony backpack is as big as she is.

Photo Day 19: Starch
I chose crackers and donut holes...

Last Day of Summer Vacation

We tried a new church today.  I am feeling pretty good about it.  I think next week we might try our old church again.  We want a place with a really good youth group for Elexis.  We also went and saw Planes and took the dogs to the dog park this evening.  Overall it has been a really good relaxed day.  Tomorrow, school begins.  I am ready for it, but at the same time I am not.  I love hanging out with my kid and I am going to miss her when she goes back to school.  She has been ready to go back since about the first of July.  She loves school and she misses her friends (mainly her best friend who spent the summer in South Carolina).  She is looking forward to her classes and getting back into the routine of things.  I am too.  So today I am happy that we had a great last day of summer vacation.

Photo Day 18: Soft
I chose soft squishy marshmallows.  I threw some mini chocolate chips in there for texture though.

I need to start photographing my food earlier in the day so I don't get such harsh shadows.  Maybe tomorrow I will have time...

Just Happy

I am simply happy today.  It has been a good day.

Photo Day 17: Smooth
Key Lime Pie - I made some for my dad's birthday.  It is pretty much the only dessert he likes.

School and birthday

Today I am happy that Elexis is ready for school.  We went this morning and turned in her proofs of residency (next year they will probably want blood).  She got her locker assignment, her official schedule and located all her classes.  We then proceeded to the mall where we finished up her back to school clothes shopping.  She also got her hair cut.  I didn't get a picture, because as we were coming home; her best friend who had been gone all summer, called and asked Elexis to stay the night so she went.

This evening I got to hang out with my dad and 2nd mom.  Today is his birthday and I made him mini key lime pies.  I make them for him every year on his birthday and Father's Day.  It is his favorite dessert (really the only dessert he likes).  It was great to catch up with them and I really enjoyed the evening.  I hadn't seen them in a couple months so I am glad it all worked out.

Photo Day 16: Packaged
Simply put: A Snickers bar.

My dear friend

Today I am happy that I got to spend some unexpected time with one of my best friends.  We hung out for a couple of hours just talking.  We laughed and cried together.  Her friendship means a lot to me and I am lucky to get to spend time with her.  Hopefully with school starting Monday (EEK!) I can spend more time with her.  We both needed it.

Photo Day 15: Round
I chose to do two different ones.  I did Lindt mini truffles and whoppers - both round.

And to make up for yesterday...here is my idea executed a little better.  On a stick...The Great Divide Bar.  It is nestled in The Great Divide Ice Cream.

My freezer is so stocked with goodies from this challenge...I love it!  I am going to start looking at another food challenge, or maybe a pinterest food challenge...that sounds fun!

Movies make me happy

Today I am happy that I got to watch Dirty Dancing in the movie theater.  That is the very first movie I ever saw in the theater without my parents.  I was nine and I was in love with the movie.  A lot of the mature situations went over my head and I didn't realize until way later what really went on. This was the last movie in this particular Classic Movie Series.  The past six weeks I have sang along with Grease and entire theater of people.  I also got to introduce my daughter to Back to the Future and Ghostbusters, and I got to see two movies I had never seen, Animal House and American Graffiti.  Tonight was the best ending; because "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" and the audience going crazy after that line.  Priceless experience.

Photo Day 14: On a stick
For this one I took some photos; but I didn't like the way they turned out.  I am going to try again tomorrow.  So for now I leave you with one from the archive; my very first cake pops I ever made way back in February or March I believe.  They were pink lemonade.  They were so pretty.

Mickey Cookies

Today I am happy my Mickey cookies turned out cute.

I am also really happy with my daughter's orthodontist.  She and her staff are awesome.  Elexis got her extra device put on today.  She is a trooper.  Her favorite part, the teal bands she got put on as well.

Photo Day 13: Protein
Peanuts!  Something Elexis cannot eat right now.

I heart Photoshop

Today I am happy I got to play around in Photoshop for longer than 20 minutes.  I rediscovered some of my favorite settings and filters.  I am also in the process of picking three photographs to enter into a local photography show.  This will be a huge leap of faith for me.  If you want to input, please feel free.    Here are a couple pictures I got to edit today.  All my feathered friends...
African penguins

The bully flamingo...he would go headbutt other flamingos that were sleeping

You've seen grumpy cat...introducing grumpy bird.  Elexis and I named him Carl (Disney's Up reference)

Photo day 12: French
My French baguette and Perrier water.  I really do like Perrier, it is a surprise to my taste buds every time I drink it.  Bonus: my husband and child do not like it, so finally a beverage all to myself.

Today is a YouTube day.

Today I am happy for YouTube.  It makes me smile, laugh, cry and several "aweeee" moments.  Of course I have been sucked into the endless varieties of videos.  Mainly today I watched baby animal videos.  I will share a few of my favorites.

The first being a baby hippo (of course).  I just want to cuddle this little guy.

Next here is a baby duck fighting to stay awake!!  So cute!

A great Saturday

Today I am happy because I got to spend time with a lot of family and great friends.  We had my dad's 62nd birthday party today.  There were about 35 people at their house.  We had lots of yummy food and cookie cake to top it all off.  I rode a little mini motorbike and my husband tried to teach me to ride my mom's big motorcycle.  Her's was way too big for me.  The kids swam and played on the golf carts.  There was tons of laughter and a lot of conversation.  I am beyond blessed.  Tonight Elexis is at a sleepover and I miss her.  We have another birthday party tomorrow (her cousin's...the one having the sleepover).  Busy busy weekend filled with lots of family.  Here are a few pictures from today.
Hamburgers, fresh grilled squash, cucumbers and tomatoes out of the garden, my mom's potato salad...yum.  This is my mom's plate, I had a hotdog with all the other stuff.

A beautiful candid of my cousin.  She doesn't even know I took this picture.

Another candid.  This is my aunt who celebrated her 58th birthday yesterday.  Her daughter is the one above.

Me and one of my favorite cousins (her sister is my other favorite).  She starts her Senior year on Thursday.

Photo Day 10: Split
I was split (haha) between two pictures.  I decided to post both.  Both revolve around ice cream.  One is Blue Bell Great Divide.  The other is a Blue Bell Banana Split ice cream sundae.

Time with my girl

Today I am happy I got to spend some one on one time with my daughter.  We took a mini road trip up to Tulsa (about 2 hours from me) and went to the Tulsa Zoo (imagine that, I went to the zoo!! haha).  It is about a third of the size as the OKC Zoo, but it was a nice change.  They have some animals that we don't.  Namely....PENGUINS!!  Most of the animals were very cooperative for my photographer side.  I will do a whole post on the zoo with tons of pictures.  I do have a couple I would like to share now.  The flamingos were extremely close and there was a baby!!!  After we got back from the zoo, we went and saw the new Percy Jackson movie.  Elexis has loved these books for years and she was glad that they finally made the second movie.  We spent a low key evening at home in prep for our busy weekend and really busy next week.  I love my girl and I know I have very little precious time with her and I want to soak it up.  Sometimes she gets on my every last nerve, but I know those moments will pass.  I am her parent first, but she is truly one of my best friends.

Also, tonight my husband unexpectedly brought me flowers home.  I was completely shocked.  They are so pretty.

On to some pictures:

Baby Flamingo!!  I love the gray.

Flamingo eye.  My new background on my computer.

My flowers!!

Photo Day 9: Rice
At first I didn't want to do it.  Rice is boring.  Then I told myself "that is why this is called a challenge, to challenge yourself"  So, here is some rice.  It's long grain and wild rice.  I really loved the way it turned out.  This rice is uncooked, I liked the texture.

So glad not to be in jail

Today I am just happy I didn't punch somebody.  It has been that kind of day.  There are a lot of entitlement junkies and rude people in this world.  As a bonus though; as a family, we went and watched Ghostbusters in the theater.  I haven't seen it in a good number of years.  Elexis said that it was kind of cheesy but she liked it.  There were a few people there dressed as the Ghostbusters.  It was a pretty great night.  Oh, and Happy 62nd Birthday to my Dad (one of them anyway).

Day 7: Covered
I had originally taken pictures of the chocolate covered bananas I made, but no matter what angle I shot, they just look risqué (haha).  So instead I am posting the half finished Mickey shorts oreos I am doing.  I am putting the ears on tomorrow.  I didn't have regular Oreos, so I am using peanut butter kind.

Much happier today

Today I am happy to be in a happier mood.  I cleaned my house, I went to the zoo, twice!  I went to the mall, got some things accomplished and I feel much better.  Last night after I wrote my blog post, I went to the gym and took out some aggression.  Tomorrow, me and my baby girl are going to take a small road trip to Tulsa to go to the Tulsa Zoo.  Imagine that, me going to a zoo!!  I am excited because I get to see PENGUINS!!  Yay!! So be looking for a lot of pictures this weekend.  Speaking of which, it is going to be a busy one (seems to be the story of my life).  August is a huge birthday month for me. All that with school starting, makes that a very busy month for me.  All I can say...Bring it on!

Photo Day 8: Cold
A cold glass of milk to go with a warm Subway cookie...too bad I don't like milk (but I do like it for a prop).

Note: I don't know why my blog didn't publish yesterday, so I guess you get a double dose today!
