Monday: Elexis was out of school and my husband was off work. He had gone to the urgent care the day before because he was running a pretty high temp. He tested negative for both the flu and strep so that was good. But, the doc sent him home with a prescription for Tamiflu (just in case) and zpack. Turns out it was a pretty bad sinus infection, but the z-pack took care of it. So Monday he was puny all day. It's okay though because Elexis and I weren't home much of the day. We started off our day by volunteering at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Man what a rewarding experience. We were put with a group from a local college, UCO. Our group had about 15 fraternity brothers that were hilarious. The were so energetic and excited to be helping out. Our coordinator even said that it was probably the most energetic group she has ever had. Our whole group probably had about 35 people in it. Our duties of the day consisted of taking bulk frozen zucchini that came in big boxes and repackaging it into two pound portions. Elexis and I were scoopers. There were also weighers and sealers. I also went around with the broom and dustpan and kept our area neat. I was over at the frat's tables (they occupied 2 of them) a lot! They certainly were a messy bunch, but man they were funny!! We both had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves. We are already looking forward to doing it again.
After our shift was over, we went home for about an hour to eat lunch. After that, we went and saw The Nut Job. It was okay. Not my favorite animated movie, but it was a good way to pass the afternoon. Then we just had a low key evening at home.
Tuesday: Hubby was home sick again. It's a good thing too, because our heater went out. It is only three years old. By the time we noticed it went out; it was too late to call anyone so we used our little personal heaters and finally lit our fireplace this winter. We went to bed that night with our electric blankets set on 8 and didn't get hot once.
My pretty fire
Wednesday: Hubby home again, but feeling much better. This time it was to get our heater fixed because the next day the high was 23. He was able to get the old blower off the heater, located a new one, and put the new one on all in one day. I was afraid we were going to have to order a new one, but luckily he was able to find one from the place we bought the unit from. They had to make a special run out to their warehouse to pick it up which we were very thankful for.
Thursday: Super Cold Day!! It started out in the teens and didn't get above 20 all day. And of course that is the day I had errands to run and Elexis had lessons and practice. I had to go get a string replaced on her cello. So, while it was super cold and super windy; I am try to wrestle this giant instrument in and out of the car. After school, we went to her piano and voice lessons. She also started a new orchestra that night too. That's right, my kid is now in three full time orchestras (her school, Sinfonia, and now Rockin Strings). She loves it. Luckily her lessons and her new orchestra are only about 5 to 10 minutes away from each other or something would have to give.
Friday: Today, I went and visited one of my teacher friends while her students were in activity (PE or Music). It was a great chance to get caught up with her. Then after that, I pretty much spent the day playing around with designing a new layout. This afternoon, Elexis had a cello lesson. After that, we have spent the rest of the evening relaxing and being low key.
Luckily we don't have any obligations this weekend (which NEVER happens). I am sure we will find something to do to occupy us. It is supposed to be in the low 60's. I need to wash my car (still). Monday the cold is supposed to return. I am just happy to have a working heater again.
Why is it that the heater always goes out in the winter and the A/C always goes out on the hottest day in the summer?? Glad you are having a low-key weekend. Hope we are too!
