Day 11: Kids these days!

They don't realize that we once lived without the internet or computers or iPods, or cell phones.  I was just telling my husband this morning that remember how we used to have to wait for dial up connection.  You clicked on the connect button and went and got dressed, do your hair, prepare a 4 course meal and come back and your at the end stages of the connection.  Don't even get me started on the frustration of being 'kicked off line' because someone picked up the extension.

Oh, and we also were taught cursive in third grade and had to write all of our papers all the way through high school in cursive (and sometimes in ink!).

Ahhh, the good ole days.

No figgy pudding for me...and other traditional food.

Day 10: Tell us about a traditional holiday food that you just can't stand.

This one is pretty easy for me.  Usually by Christmas all of the family (extended included) is sick of turkey and ham so we traditionally have 'other' food.  Last year it was hamburgers.  The year before was Mexican; we have also had Italian and breakfast all day.  That being said here are a few traditional holiday foods I don't like: not a big fan of ham (neither is my immediate family), fruitcake is nasty (I have even tried making my own), I don't like eggnog or gingerbread (though it is fun to build with), no oyster stew for me nor prime rib and please don't bring me any figgy pudding.

Our traditional Christmas morning breakfast (I hope this is not a topic later, because you will be rereading it if it is...haha): Cinnamon rolls, chocolate milk for Elexis, orange juice for the hubsters, and decaf coffee for me.   I usually go for the cinnamon rolls in a can, this year I think I will make them from scratch.

Day 9: What currently popular meme/trend do you just not get?

The meme(s) I don't currently get is some of the Instagram hashtags like #mcm (man crush monday) #tmt (transformation tuesday) #wcw (woman crush wednesday) #tbt (throwback thursday) #fbf (flashback friday).  And countless others.  Yes, I participate in the photo a day challenges because, well...I have to take a picture of something.  I don't just go to the web and pull off a celeb picture for #mcm or #wcw.  Plus, I just find it ridiculous.  I do like looking at some of the transformations (weigh loss) and throwbacks; but when people continually put up the same ones.... I also don't really get the meaning of the putting the sign language F next to your eye and calling it Fierce Friday.  Some of the kids posting it are not fierce at all.  And don't get me started on selfies.  I don't even really like the word.

A trend I don't get: those leggings being worn as pants.  I do not want to wear pants that show every indentation in my butt and thighs to the entire world.  And some of those leggings are just ugly.  I saw  a lady wearing some that looked like the leg muscles.  It was weird.

Day 8: What holiday tradition do you wish would please just go away?

I will probably be stoned for this; but I am sick of seeing it all over Facebook...Elf on a Shelf.

I don't care how naughty your elf is or what atrocious name you have give them.  I don't want to see a picture of your elf riding a chicken (yesterday) or him playing cards with Barbie.  I know it's a cute tradition for some to have their kids behave, but the threat of telling Santa worked just as well in my house (still does) or that Jesus is always watching works in the house too.  I really don't know the tradition of elf, and I am just getting the general gist of the idea from Facebook and Pinterest.  Plus, I already have enough to clean up after.  I don't want to create a mess just to clean it up again (I have a family and animals that already make messes).

04. Have you ever spent ages making/writing something on your computer when it suddenly crashed and you lost it all?: Yes, about a month and a half ago.  I lost all my pictures...but hubby got them all back (yay for an IT guy)

05. Do you enjoy food shopping?: Yes, I look forward to it.  I wander up and down every aisle.

06. What are you having for lunch?: It's night.  I had a sandwich.

07. Are you one of those people who can sleep through anything?: I used to be (I once slept through a flood); now I wake up at any noise (thank you parenthood)

08. Do you like love letters?: Yes

09. Have you ever received or written one?: Yes to both and I have all of them that hubby and I exchanged.

10. How far does your nearest relative live?: My mother in law lives 2 minutes walking distance from my house.

11. Do you like velvet?:  no, it's tricky to sew

13. If you went to London, where would you go first?: Platform 9 3/4...

14. If you had to pick one friend who is the most interesting, who would you pick?: A 91 year old woman I play dominos with.  Actually I find a lot of elderly people interesting.  I like their stories.

Can you think of the meanest thing you have ever done/said to someone?: I probably could if I thought about it hard enough; but I do remember telling my best friend in 2nd grade that she had guilt written all over her face because I had just seen a Family Circle cartoon with that very thing illustrated.  

16. What magazines do you read?: A lot.  I have an app on my phone called next issue.  For a small fee a month I can read any magazine that I want.  I had a subscription to People for 10 years prior to that though. 

17. What/who has been on your mind today?: Christmas and how I am not prepared this year.

18. Would you be interested in ghost-hunting?: Very much so.

Dear Santa

Time to channel your inner child.  Write a letter to Santa.  Here goes.

Dear Santa,

I have been a mostly good girl this year.  I am not asking for much for Christmas; just the normal world peace and stuff.  But really, I will just write you my wish list.  I would love to have a bigger kitchen (or at least new kitchen cabinets), a beautiful stainless steel freezer on the bottom refrigerator, a Keurig (you think after asking for 5 years I would have one), a new mattress set, some new living room furniture, different across the street neighbors, an owl (preferably a snow owl), a unicorn, a decision on college, a family rift mended, (lets get back to the kitchen) new pots and pans, more counter space, to finish my table I began stripping a hundred months ago (it's sanded, just needs paint), a clean house, flooring in my living room (even though I am okay with my cement floors), a big ole bathtub that I can really soak in.  So you might be better off with the world peace thing...

Really for Christmas I just want to have a good stress free day with lots of laughter and smiles.  I still would really like to have that unicorn though...

Day 6: What is the best gift you have ever given?

Geez...now I have to think.  I love finding that special gift for someone that I know their eyes are going to light up.  Problem is I usually ruin the surprise or give it to them early because I am so excited.  I think I have given my husband some pretty good gifts.  Last year I had a picture that I took in Philadelphia on our anniversary trip, blown up and framed so he could hang it in his office.  People still compliment him on that picture and asked where he got it.  This year I paid for him to drive 4 laps in a Lamborghini.  It has always been a dream of his to ride in one and now he gets to drive it.  That is his Christmas gift this year, and he already knows about it.  I had to check dates with him before I booked it to assure that he would be able to do it.  I also surprised him with a road trip to Memphis a few years back.  That was fun.

Speaking of gifts:  Yesterday I got my birthday gift (it's two weeks after Christmas) bought.  I got an opportunity to buy presale tickets to Beauty and the Beast in Tulsa.  I called hubby and begged for them for my birthday (because the show is Feb 1).  This is the one and only time I gave him permission to buy my birthday present before Christmas.  I am so excited!!  Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite everything.

I took our Christmas card picture tonight.  It's also the first posed family picture we have taken in a while.  We took it outside on the snow while it was 19* outside.  It only took me two takes and the end result it beautiful.  I have been playing with my camera all day so here are some pictures that I took.
