May Blog Challenge

I'm back!

I took a little self imposed hiatus.  I needed it to recharge my batteries.  I will finish out the food challenge from last month as soon as I get my pictures edited.  I loved doing it.  But, it inadvertently made my husband gain weight (what can I say, I like making desserts).  He is on a health kick now to lose about 15 pounds.  So, mostly healthy stuff for a while.  Hopefully I can make healthy stuff pretty.  I decided to just take on a weekly challenge this month.  I am going to find something good on Pinterest and make it and take pictures of it.  Not sure yet if I am going to limit it just to food.  If you have any suggestions, send them my way.  I am up for the challenge.

Labor Day weekend: I stayed home.  My family went and had fun at the lake with my parents and I didn't.  They had a great time riding wave runners, swimming and tubing.  I had a good time doing laundry, yard work, laundry, watching my cousin sing the National Anthem at a rodeo, laundry, helping my Mother in law pick out a puppies and helping her potty train these puppies (PUPPIES!!) and did I mention laundry??  I think I did 15 loads and I still don't think it is all finished.  I washed everything washable in our house.  Then when my family came back home....lake (gross) laundry.

Puppies: As I mentioned my MIL got the cutest little puppies.  I am talking adorable off the scales.  She got a female Yorkie-poo.  Over the past 4 months my MIL had to put two of her three animals to sleep due to old age.  She decided to get a puppy.  Well this puppy whined all night, so she decided it needed a playmate so they can keep each other company (Granny, who lives with my MIL has a chihuahua that doesn't want anything to do with the puppies).  So she went the next day and got the cutest little ball of fluff shih-tzu.  He is a male.  Their names are Sophie and Dusty.  They are ADORABLE!  Since it has been the two of them, they sleep at night instead of whine.  They are the same age so they play great together.  I love these puppies.  I have been helping my MIL out by going over and taking them outside every two hours while she is at work.  Believe me, it is not a burden on me because I get to play and cuddle with these babies.

School for Elexis is going very well.  We have had open house and got to hear what all the teachers have planned for the kids (I also found out why I had to send 6 rolls of scotch tape for science...such a waste).  Elexis has been going to every before and after school practice for her cello.  She starts her private lessons back next week.  She really wants to make these two honor orchestras.  I know she can do it, because she is determined.  She also has been going to a youth group at a church we have been trying out.  She is loving that!  I pick up her cousin and we eat chick fil a.  I drop them off and I head to the gym.  All of our after school activities start back next week.  I like it because she stays busy and doesn't just sit around.  Any time she wants to drop something, we will let her (as long as she finishes to the end though...no quitting in the middle).  This is the first time in three years we have not done musical theatre.  I am kind of sad about it, but mostly relieved.  I will still try to help out with costumes if they will let me.

I guess I will end this for now.  I have really missed all of you.  I do not plan on letting so long go between posts.
They both are about 8 inches long

I just loved this picture.  Lots of fruit around our house.

  1. 6 rolls of scotch tape?! Per student?!?! *dies* The list of school supplies just keeps getting more and more ridiculous. At least at the school my nieces and nephew go to, all of their textbooks are on tablet computers that the school provides. Yeah. Swanky. Can't wait to see some pretty and healthy noms!! :D

    1. Yes! That is what I thought! Instead of the kids having a binder for that class, they have a composition book that they tape copies of the lessons too. I would rather my kid take notes or carry a binder and hole punch them papers. Oh, and I had to supply the copy paper too!

    2. Wow... so they're just encouraging laziness now? That's insane...

  2. Welcome back!!!

    Love the puppies.

I don't ask my students to pick up anything particular--just the things they need for class. I feel too guilty asking for other supplies.

    1. I understand about budget cuts and stuff, but it just seems like a waste when there are more economical ways of using resources. For teacher's birthdays in middle school, we get them a package of dry erase markers and a $5 gift card to Sonic. We also give them something at Christmas and other fun stuff through the year.

  3. I didn't even buy a thing for Darian and Harley for school. Thought I would wait and see what the teachers ask for. Those back to school lists usually have crap on them that never gets used....Welcome back.I have missed you.

    1. I missed you too Paula. I just wanted to know what my tape went for. It does upset me a smidge to have to buy dry erase markers for the teacher. I know that if we don't buy them, the teachers would have to pay for it out of pocket; but I definitely think this should come from an administration level. Our school systems here in OK are crap!

  5. Your no-pressure Pinterest challenge is a good one.

6 rolls of scotch tape!!! What are they going to do with it? Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

The pups are so cute. I wish we had space for more than one day. My Simba could use a friend of the same species. He thinks he's one of us.

I always love your photos, but the one of the grapes is very pretty.

    1. So far I have made a few meals. Basic dinner meals, but they have turned out to be extremely well recepted by my two picky eaters so win!

I love puppies. Since my MIL has gotten hers, my husband's cousin and my brother and sister in law have all gotten dogs too. It's like a baby boom, but 4 legged...

      Thanks! I love the grapes.

  6. Do you find it funny that back in "the day" (whenever THAT was) if you had two REAL breeds and mixed them, they were a mutt dog that you couldn't give away...and now they're "designer" and cost twice as much.

*but they're cute.... so that counts for something!

    1. I know, I tell Elexis that all the time. I had a few 'designer' dogs back in my childhood. They were free strays that happen to choose us and stay.
